There are many varieties of blueberry plants, but I wanted to share some of the differences between the two varieties we currently have for sale.

Duke blueberry plants are a Highbush variety. The two common varieties found in North American are Highbush and Lowbush, or wild blueberries. Highbush blueberries are the type you find at the Superstores and have been developed to produce large, high yields. Duke blueberries create beautiful pink and white flowers that add a touch of decoration for gardens. Dukes can reach 4-6 feet in height and bloom late, but produce fruit early, saving the berries from spring frosts.

Blue Crop blueberry plants are also a Highbush variety, and is considered the best all-around for their long production period, disease and crack resistance and high yields. This variety produces fruit mid-summer and has handsome red foliage in the fall.

Planting both types in your garden will help with cross-pollination and will help produce larger berries and higher yields. Come back soon for our blog post on cross-pollination and your local bees.
